Mono-empire
The transcendental global empire at the end of the third age of nations. This is a transitional phase as a mono-empire has no outside opposition and can therefore never fully form.
Expanded explanation
The second sentence contains the argument and it turns on a structural requirement rather than on optimism. An endogroup is an emergency power structure created to withstand existential threats, and fear is the primary catalyst for its formation, so a group with nothing outside it has lost the thing that constitutes it. A mono-empire therefore cannot complete, which is why Marsh calls it a transitional phase rather than an endpoint. What it can do is exhaust everyone while failing. Anger is increasingly considered a universally unacceptable emotion as the whole world is expected to be sublated under a totalitarian mono-empire, and anger is the strongest tool of resistance, which is why its suppression accompanies the formation. The lineage she traces runs through the ages of nations. The Anglo and Germanic group became the global endo-ideal through transcendental industrial-scientific endo-idealism, and that arrangement is currently being replaced by the mono-empire. Holosocial names the same configuration from the inside, a social group including everyone, which may be exosocial or may be endosocialism operating at global scale. Marsh's observation about what the dissolution of smaller endogroups produces is the one to hold onto, since both exoself and endoself attributes are becoming more common as lower endogroups weaken under a transcendental one. Removing shelter and opening conduits look alike from outside and produce opposite people.
In Heather Marsh’s words
Marsh holds that the structure cannot complete, since an endogroup requires an outside to exist against.
“a mono-empire has no outside opposition and can therefore never fully form”

Examples
- No outside, no group
- Fear of an external threat is what constitutes an endogroup, so a group encompassing everyone has removed its own foundation.
- Anger suppressed
- Universal disapproval of anger accompanies the formation, since anger is the strongest tool of resistance.
- Two outcomes from one dissolution
- Weakening lower endogroups produces exoselves and endoselves alike, depending on whether conduits opened or shelter was removed.
How others use it
Hardt and Negri's Empire described a decentred sovereignty without a territorial centre, which is the nearest theoretical parallel, and globalization theory has a substantial literature on whether a single world order is emerging or fragmenting. Schmitt argued that politics requires a friend and enemy distinction, which is the same structural point Marsh makes about the impossibility of a group without an outside. Fukuyama's end of history proposed the arrival of a single model. Marsh's contribution is to treat the impossibility as diagnostic rather than reassuring, since a structure that cannot complete does not therefore stop, and the attempt is what produces the exhaustion she describes.
