Civilization
American
Updated August 5, 2026
Residents of any part of America.
Expanded explanation
This follows directly from the definition of America as two continents and 35 countries: if America is the whole hemisphere, an American is anyone who lives in it, not a citizen of one country. Like the America entry, it corrects ordinary usage rather than naming a concept, restoring the word to its geographic reach and refusing the convention that lets one nation hold it for itself.
