Anglo / Germanic
Relating to states that speak primarily English and heavily adopt Anglo culture or are part of Germanic-speaking Europe. Notable for an industrial-scientific endo-idealism that took early precedence over the various church, filial or other endo-idealisms elsewhere. Recently, this group became the global endo-ideal through transcendental industrial-scientific idealism.
Expanded explanation
The term names a cultural-political bloc, the primarily English-speaking states together with Germanic-speaking Europe, and marks its distinctive feature as an industrial-scientific endo-idealism. Where other groups built their idealised centre around a church, a family line or another anchor, this bloc placed industry and science at the centre early, and Marsh holds it went on to become the global endo-ideal, the model other groups measure themselves against. The entry describes a group and its idealised self-image rather than a standalone concept, and it connects to her account of how any endogroup installs an endo-ideal and treats it as the source of virtue and authority.
Examples
- The industrial-scientific centre
- A society that treats industry and science as the measure of progress and virtue is organized around the endo-ideal Marsh describes here.
- A global model
- Other groups reshaping themselves toward that industrial-scientific image show the bloc functioning as a global endo-ideal.
How others use it
Terms like the Anglosphere and Western industrial modernity cover similar ground in political and cultural analysis, usually describing shared language, institutions and economic models. Marsh reads the bloc specifically through the endo-ideal, treating its industrial-scientific self-image as the idealised centre that first outran older church and family centres and then spread as a global standard.
