Endoreality

Updated August 5, 2026

A reality which exists only within an endogroup and is created with the laws of endoreality. Endoreality is filled with magical words which have no universal meaning but serve to cast people as the negative image or endo-ideal. Endoreality is relative and has no meaning outside the perspective of the endogroup. Endoreality can change at the whim of an endo-ideal.

Expanded explanation

An endoreality is a working account of the world that holds only inside a particular group, and the last clause of the definition is the one that gives it away. It can change at the whim of an endo-ideal, which no description of the world can do, so anything with that property is a group product rather than an observation. The creation of endogroups is a magical suspension of universal reality required in order to block guilt and egalitarian force, which is what an endoreality is for. Its vocabulary does the sorting. Magical words carry no universal meaning and exist to cast people as endo-ideal or negative image, which is why a proposed law named after a person, or associated with a reviled group by whoever wants it passed, functions differently from the same law stated as a principle. A public unable to think of a principle without aligning it to an endo-ideal or a negative image is a public trapped in a strong endoreality. The distortion runs symmetrically and in both directions. The endo-ideal claims positives and deflects negatives in themselves and reverses that for their negative image, while the negative image denies their own achievements and overstates their failures and reverses that for the endo-ideal, with reflectors amplifying both. Strength of endoreality also accounts for a familiar phenomenon at the top, since the out-of-touch tendencies of an endo-ideal follow from the strength of the reality they live inside.

In Heather Marsh’s words

Marsh points to changeability at will as the property that marks a reality out as a group product.

“Endoreality is relative and has no meaning outside the perspective of the endogroup”

Examples

Changeable at a whim
No account of the world can be revised by a person's preference, so the capacity to be revised that way identifies what this is.
Laws named after people
Attaching a principle to a figure or a reviled group makes it operate through endoreality rather than on its merits.
Symmetrical distortion
The endo-ideal inflates itself and deflates the negative image, and the negative image does exactly the same in reverse.

How others use it

Berger and Luckmann's social construction of reality is the standing sociological account of how shared understandings come to feel objective, and Thomas Kuhn's paradigms describe something similar inside science. Orwell's Newspeak is the popular reference point for vocabulary engineered to make certain thoughts unavailable, and the propaganda and framing literatures study the same effects empirically. Marsh's version differs by keeping universal reality as a real and separate thing that the endoreality departs from. Strong constructionism holds that all realities are constructed and declines to rank them, whereas her framework requires a reality outside the group against which the group's version can be measured, which makes endoreality a distortion rather than one construction among many.
